Cooling Liniment, yes, my salves usually glow like this. That's not the light above the stove.

This is the first salve I have made with the intentions of using an essential oil blend. The intention of this salve is an alternative to a petroleum-based vapo-rub found in the pharmacy section of local stores. If you read the ingredients, one of the listed is petroleum or a petroleum by-product. Neither of which I would like to rub around my throat and chest at night.

My solution: Resp-Appease Liniment.

This contains the infused oils of Eucalyptus and Mullein, both of with support the lungs, inside and out and an essential oil blend.The essential oil blend comes from Rose Howard of Thousand Petals.  You may find her items at my store where she has oils, oil blends and other skin care products.  I have known Rose since 2001 and have been a regular customer of hers since 2007.

Rose makes an oil blend that works on lung support called “Resp-Ease”.  During the winter of 2007, I had a fairly bad asthma season where I would reach for my inhaler every couple of hours because of tightness resulting from my interaction of dust, warm environments and strong perfumes.  At a local show in Louisville, I connected with Rose and inspected her table.  Something on the far side of the table called to me and thus began my experience with Resp-Ease.

I put the oil blend into a spray mister to help facilitate the application of the oil.  I would walk out of the shower in the morning, after I was finished drying, I would spray some into the middle of my chest and continue getting ready for work.  Once I was ready to put a shirt on and walk out the door the oil would be mostly absorbed into my skin and starting to work.

While wearing the oil blend, any asthma problems I would have, would not be as severe and got to the point that I would not need the use of my inhaler for days at a time, even during my peak asthma season between the end of November and the beginning of March.

Cooling Liniment

Combining the herbal qualities of Eucalyptus and Mullein with the energetic properties of Rose’s essential oil blend, this brings together two wonderful products into one that I call Resp-Appease Liniment.

Infused Eucalyptus Oil

Starting oils and tinctures is a wonderful process to watch and observe. In my living room, I have one tincture and three oils that feel so good to walk by them. When I do, I give them a shake to assist with infusing the oil with the medicinal qualities of her herb.

To the right, I have an infused eucalyptus oil working.  This is an oil that will be a base for a respiratory-support salve.  A friend of mine works with essential oils as I work with herbs.  I have been a customer of hers for almost 4 years and I purchase an essential oil blend she calls Resp-ease.  I am an asthmatic and my peak asthma season is between the end of November and the beginning of March, give or take.  I put her oil blend into a bottle with a spray-pump and put a spritz on my chest as I walk out of the shower in the morning and let that soak in.  This 2009-2010 year, during my usual peak asthma season, I rarely had to reach for my inhaler.

I am making this oil into a salve or a liniment to allow others to rub into their chest, neck and allow this essential oil blend to work for them.

Infused Bloodroot Oil

I am also working on an infused bloodroot oil.  This is a repeat formula to where I extract the medicinal qualities of the herb into the oil.  Then, I heat that infused oil with some beeswax, charcoal and other goodies such as Shea butter and cocoa butter.  This makes my well-known bloodroot black drawing salve.

It is an effective drawing salve on it’s own, but with the addition of bloodroot and other goodies, it’s a darned-powerful remedy.  A similar remedy was once called Cansema.  However recipes I have found for this salve uses several chemicals I do not particularly agree with.  So, I do not include them, but have added other goodies with drawing properties such as clay.

This remedy is also found on eBay where it is one of my better sellers.  I had someone in out west purchase several tins from me had has used it her protocol of removing breast cancer from her system without using chemotherapy.  Several months later, I asked her how she was doing and she said she has been diagnosed cancer-free and is still in remission!

Infused Anti-Stress Oil

Another oil I have started is one with peppermint, spearmint, catnip and other goodies to assist with relieving stress and anxiety.

This oil started feeling good when I added the herbs into the jar before pouring the oil into the jar.  Then when I poured olive oil into the jar, the whole jar just felt good to be with and I am looking forward to pressing this oil and making salve out of it.

This is also an oil that is making me consider using larger or food-grade buckets to infuse oils.  The herbs alone was almost fluffy enough to need to press it down while I was pouring the oil into the jar, just to keep it in.

The cats should pay me a lot of attention when I press this oil as it does have catnip and Valerian.

Relaxing Herbs

This is a tincture.  A tincture is a combination of herbs, alcohol and water.  The alcohol dissolves the parts of the herb that can be dissolved by alcohol into the menstruum.  The water dissolves the parts of the herb that can be dissolved by water into the menstruum.   The menstruum is a combination of alcohol and water and the percentage of alcohol is based on how most of the herbs will allow themselves to be dissolved by the alcohol.  For example, some herbs dissolve very easily in water, but not alcohol, and vice-verse.  Most of my tinctures can be found here.

This was also a fun one to start.  I used Skullcap, Hops flowers and other goodies for this one.  I had a friend of mine that sends me herbs as a thank you for a Reiki attunement and for helping her with a web site she was working on.  One of the herbs she sent me was a gallon bag of dried Hops flowers.  I thought to myself, “I am never going to use all of this” and that large bag was two ounces, and I used the whole thing as it nearly filled my jar.

The picture to the left appears to be mostly Hops flowers and other goodies.  I love combining herbs like this together because while I can tincture every herb separately and then combine them, I like the energies I feel when the herbs get together and have a chance to “get to know each other”.  And, having them work together is what I am after.  The term, “the whole is greater than the sum of the parts” holds true for me and all of the tinctures and oils I make.

Currently, I am preparing two oils and one tincture to start for this new moon.

• A infused bloodroot oil.  This will be the base of my popular Bloodroot Black Drawing Salve.
• I will be starting a base for a respiratory-easing salve, similar to another product on the market this one will concentrate on relieving congestion and stuffy head without the use of petroleum or turpentine.  I will be using a friend’s essential oil blend I have used for several years with WONDERFUL results to ease my own lung congestion and asthma problems.  My peak asthma season is end of November to start of February and this year, thanks to the oil blend, there were only a few occasions I needed to reach for an inhaler.
• I will also be starting a tincture to assist with getting a restful night’s sleep.  To balance the effects of Valerian with other herbs to ease you into a more restful and full night’s sleep.
• I also have started another oil for a salve to assist with stress relief. Lavender, peppermint, catnip are only a few of the ingredients. It’s interesting watching my cats take so much interest in an infused oil, before it started infusing. I like the energies of this oil already.

We will see what else pops up and I may be inspired to make before this weekend’s new moon.

Arnica is used externally for treatment of physical trauma, sprains, bruising. Use immediately after injury to prevent, relieve and reduce swelling, bruises and pain. External use only. Not to be used when pregnant.

Calendula was traditionally used for its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and healing properties. Calendula oil is often used to aid in lessening scarring after wounds heal and after stitches are removed.

Chickweed tincture has traditionally been used to nourish the kidneys, bladder and liver, as well as for irritated skin conditions and cooling the body during fevers or hot flashes. Dissolves cysts, cools fevers, infections, hot flashes, rheumatic pain, decreases appetite.

Plantain has been used in inflammation of the skin, malignant ulcers, intermittent fever, etc., and as a vulnerary, and externally as a stimulant application to sores. Applied to a bleeding surface, the leaves are of some value in arresting hemorrhage, but they are useless in internal hemorrhage, although they were formerly used for bleeding of the lungs and stomach, consumption and dysentery. The fresh leaves are applied whole or bruised in the form of a poultice. Rubbed on parts of the body stung by insects, nettles, etc., or as an application to burns and scalds, the leaves will afford relief and will stay the bleeding of minor wounds.

The Wounded Healer understands what the patient feels because he has gone through the same pain

The suffering patient can be cared for by the Healer and be instrumental in the Healers own healing

Each encounter between Healer and patient can be transforming for both

The lesson of Chiron teaches us is that we can overcome pain and transcend into knowledge

That each of us can become a Wounded Healer
